by Katharina Blanke
Katharina Blanke, born in Berlin in 1975, lives and works as an artist and illustrator in Berlin. Her work has been exhibited in cities including Berlin, Dresden, Essen and Rome. Katharina was in industrial design in Berlin and, subsequently, studied visual communication at the School of Arts in Basel. She worked in Zurich as a graphic designer and illustrator at Scalo, a publishing house for contemporary art and photography, as well as in Berlin for various clients.
Her work shows the sheer pleasure of beautiful abundance and ornate opulence - losing oneself in a bizarre imagery. Widespread ornaments, like tattoos, fuse with personal objects into poetic utopian collages. Equally evident is the exuberant blend of imagery from the cluster of everyday trivial culture, as well as fairytale fantasies. It blurs the perception of reality and fiction, into beautiful, meditative labyrinths. She intrigues us with opulent material revelry executed in meticulous detail and intricately woven complex networks. Her approach is a true symbiosis of art, fashion and design.
